Classes with Women Writing for (a) Change

Voices Unlimited

This winter, Women Writing for (a) Change is offering Voices Unlimited, a series of three virtual workshops meeting on consecutive Sundays (February 26, March 5 & 12) from 1:00-3:30 pm. The All-Gender class is designed for those of us who have difficulty getting to in-person events due to chronic health issues or providing care for those who do. Open to writers of any genre, the focus of the workshop, facilitated by Karen Novak, will be ekphrastic writing— writing with visual art as the prompts. Our prompts will be works to be shown in a three-woman exhibit at the Art Beyond Boundaries Gallery in downtown Cincinnati. We are pleased to have partnered with ABB Gallery for this class, for which the staff and artists have welcomed us generously. They will be sharing the art in the show to inspire our writing.

Participants have been invited by ABB to submit pieces written during the class for exhibit alongside the art that inspired them. This, as always, depends on the wishes of the writer. On Saturday, April 1, participants are invited to celebrate the writing and art by visiting the gallery, viewing the exhibit, and taking home a free anthology of the writers' work. We will offer an online reading later, at 7:00 pm that evening, to watch from home.

Sundays, Feb 26, Mar 5 & Mar 12, 1-3:30 pm ET via Zoom

Free Sampler to be held on February 12 from 1:00-2:30 pm

My writing swings, a pendulum sweeping between wonder and despair—often in the same paragraph, often in the same reading. One day, I’m gossiping with Muses. The next, I’m searching word mines for veins of grace and finding only F-bombs.”
